S&P 500 Opens Modestly Higher

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 is up 0.2% following positive economic data out of China and a slew of earnings beats since yesterday’s close. The Nasdaq Composite is up 0.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 0.1% amid weakness from IBM (IBM 138.06, -6.10, -4.3%), which missed revenue estimates, and follow-through selling in UnitedHealth (UNH 215.25, -5.70, -2.9%).

Looking at the S&P 500 sectors shows industrials (+0.8%), information technology (+0.6%), and materials (+0.5%) outperforming the broader market. Conversely, the real estate (-0.6%) and health care (-0.5%) sectors underperform. 

U.S. Treasuries remain little changed. The 2-yr yield is flat at 2.41%, and the 10-yr yield is up one basis point to 2.60%. The U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.1% to 96.95. WTI crude is up 0.1% to $64.13/bbl.
