The Detroit Pistons were the first team to make a major move around the 2022 NBA Draft, and although it came a day early, they will have some serious draft decisions on Thursday night. The Pistons shipped off Jerami Grant to the Portland Blazers for the No. 36 pick in this year’s draft and a 2025 1st-round selection. Although it may disappoint Pistons fans that Grant will be leaving town, they received a decent return, and our experts predict there is a clear selection when they make the No. 5 overall pick in tomorrow’s draft.

Our experts’ prediction is below with odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook. Although we tipped Shaedon Sharpe to go to Detroit earlier this week, the news of Grant’s departure has an immense effect on who the Pistons take, so let’s break down our expert’s prediction.

2022 NBA Draft: Detroit Pistons first pick odds at DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings Sportsbook released odds earlier this week around Detroit’s first overall pick, and Keegan Murray was the odds-on-favorite at -175. A wager of $175 returned $100 of profit if you made this selection earlier this week, but Murray’s odds of being selected by the Pistons are now +130. If you wager $100 on Detroit to take Murray with the No. 5 pick, you’ll profit $130.

Let’s explain why our experts predict Detroit will select Murray instead of our original prediction of Shaedon Sharpe.

2022 NBA Draft Detroit Pistons first pick prediction: Keegan Murray (+130)

Earlier this week, we outlined why the Pistons would select Shaedon Sharpe with the No. 5 pick, but news broke on Wednesday that Detroit was shipping off their starting forward Jerami Grant to the Portland Trailblazers. If Grant had stayed in Detroit, Shaedon Sharpe would’ve been a perfect complement to Cade Cunningham, but Iowa’s Keegan Murray would be a shoo-in replacement for Grant.

We discussed the possibility of Detroit taking Murray with this selection in our first NBA Draft article, and he would be a perfect replacement for Jerami Grant. Murray possesses a similar body to Jerami Grant, and his three-point shooting would be an immediate boost for Detroit. Although his defense needs improvement, the Pistons have enough time to mold Murray into a two-way wing. He’s drawn comparisons to Obi Toppin and Pascal Siakam and can become a star in the NBA. Therefore, we predict that Keegan Murray will be the perfect replacement for Jerami Grant in Detroit at that the Pistons will select him with the No. 5 pick.
