Dow's nearly 725-point fall led by losses in American Express, Dow Inc. stocks

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is slumping Thursday morning with shares of American Express and Dow Inc. seeing the biggest declines for the index. Shares of American Express AXP, -4.82% and Dow Inc. DOW, -3.48% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline, as the Dow DJIA, -2.24% was most recently trading 720 points, or 2.4%, lower. American Express’s shares are down $6.88 (4.7%) while those of Dow Inc. are down $2.13 (3.7%), combining for a roughly 59-point drag on the Dow. Nike NKE, -3.81%, Caterpillar CAT, -3.50%, and Home Depot HD, -1.93% are also contributing significantly to the decline. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the Dow results in a 6.59-point swing.
