Dow's 800-point fall led by losses in shares of American Express, Nike

Shares of American Express and Nike are posting losses Thursday morning, propelling the Dow Jones Industrial Average into a slump. Shares of American Express AXP, -4.79% and Nike NKE, -5.27% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline, as the Dow DJIA, -2.41% was most recently trading 800 points, or 2.6%, lower. American Express’s shares are down $7.72, or 5.3%, while those of Nike are off $5.60 (4.9%), combining for a roughly 88-point drag on the Dow. Caterpillar CAT, -4.16%, Salesforce Inc. CRM, -4.66%, and Chevron CVX, -4.26% are also contributing significantly to the decline. A $1 move in any of the Dow’s 30 components results in a 6.59-point swing.
