Baker Mayfield responds on Twitter to a report he would request a trade away from the Cleveland Browns.

Four years into Baker Mayfield’s tenure as the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback has been nothing short of chaotic.

The former No. 1 overall pick and Heisman Trophy winner out of Oklahoma has had good moments in Cleveland. He has been arguably the best quarterback the Browns have had since Bernie Kosar, which is not saying much. However, there is reported growing tension within the organization and there is a belief the Browns could be looking to move off him this offseason.

Here is Mayfield clapping back at Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com for her reporting on the developing situation in Cleveland.

“Don’t put words in my mouth so you can put food your table. I’m not your puppet,” is not going to land well with the Browns’ brass one bit.

Talent will not be the reason for Mayfield’s undoing in Cleveland. He had enough coming out of Oklahoma to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Though undersized, Mayfield possessed incredible accuracy during his prolific college career in the Big 12. However, decision-making and needing a good team around him to succeed may contribute to the Browns moving on.

Ultimately, there will be a robust market of teams who could be interested in trading for Mayfield. Even if he has played his last game in Browns uniform, he will get another opportunity to be an NFL starting quarterback. However, his us. vs. them mentality will do him more harm than good during a critical time of his professional career. Maybe he is in need a change of scenery?

One winning season in four years as the Browns starting quarterback is simply not good enough.
