Global institutional investors are underweight India. Yet, India will become the fastest growing economy in the world by 2023-2024 (source:IMF). It will continue to have one of the youngest populations in the world until 2030 (source: United Nations Population Fund). By 2030, it is estimated that 42% of the population will be urbanized, up from 31% in 2011 (source: the World Bank). These demographic attributes translate into a growing middle class, which in turn will lead to continued growth in consumption for years to come. Additionally, it underscores the long-term need for infrastructure development.

Institutional investors should not be asking themselves ‘why India’ but rather question if they can afford to exclude it from their investment portfolios.
