Merck, Microsoft share gains contribute to Dow's nearly 100-point jump

Behind positive gains for shares of Merck and Microsoft, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is climbing Thursday morning. Shares of Merck MRK, +0.85% and Microsoft MSFT, +0.72% are contributing to the index’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA, -0.56% was most recently trading 97 points higher (0.3%). Merck’s shares have gained $1.49, or 2.0%, while those of Microsoft have climbed $2.78, or 1.0%, combining for an approximately 28-point bump for the Dow. Nike NKE, -0.12%, IBM IBM, +0.24%, and Intel INTC, are also contributing significantly to the gain. A $1 move in any of the Dow’s 30 components equates to a 6.58-point swing.
