Dow jumps nearly 250 points on gains in shares of Boeing, Merck

Powered by strong returns for shares of Boeing and Merck, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is climbing Wednesday afternoon. The Dow DJIA, +0.73% is trading 243 points higher (0.7%), as shares of Boeing BA, +3.66% and Merck MRK, +2.86% are contributing to the index’s intraday rally. Boeing’s shares are up $7.91 (3.6%) while those of Merck are up $1.96 (2.7%), combining for an approximately 65-point bump for the Dow. Amgen Inc. AMGN, +2.03%, Walgreens Boots WBA, +1.59%, and IBM IBM, +1.72% are also contributing significantly to the gain. A $1 move in any of the index’s 30 components results in a 6.58-point swing.
