MLB rumors: Yankees-Rangers Joey Gallo trade talks face challenges

Fact No. 1: The New York Yankees are desperate for outfielders.

Fact No. 2: Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo, a left-handed slugger, could be a perfect fit for the Yankees.

But adding up one and one doesn’t necessarily equal two as the July 30 trade deadline approaches.

MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports “All-Star OF Joey Gallo has a good market (Padres, others) but some rivals don’t see him as very likely to be dealt. Has year to go before free agency, and Rangers have tried in past to lock up.”

However all hope of a deal with the deadline eight days away isn’t lost, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

#Yankees have long had interest in Joey Gallo and 1 of #Rangers top scouts saw High-A Hudson Valley (Tuesday). 2 of the orgs’ best prospects, Anthony Volpe/Ezequiel Duran combined for 6 hits in the game. Keep in mind this is a time in which lots of scouts are in lots of places.

The 27-year-old Gallo is a two-time All-Star selection (2019, 2021) and won a Gold Glove Award in 2020. He’s tied for fourth in the American League this season with 24 home runs.
