Walgreens Boots, Merck share gains contribute to Dow's 150-point climb

Shares of Walgreens Boots and Merck are seeing strong returns Thursday afternoon, lifting the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory. Shares of Walgreens Boots WBA, +3.99% and Merck MRK, +3.14% are contributing to the index’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA, +0.38% is trading 157 points (0.5%) higher. Walgreens Boots’s shares are up $1.87 (3.5%) while those of Merck are up $2.37, or 3.2%, combining for an approximately 28-point boost for the Dow. Amgen Inc. AMGN, +2.33%, Cisco CSCO, +1.60%, and Microsoft MSFT, +1.21% are also contributing significantly to the gain. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the benchmark equates to a 6.58-point swing.
