Merck, Walgreens Boots share gains lead Dow's nearly 75-point jump

Powered by positive growth for shares of Merck and Walgreens Boots, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is climbing Thursday morning. The Dow DJIA, +0.03% is trading 71 points, or 0.2%, higher, as shares of Merck MRK, +2.51% and Walgreens Boots WBA, +1.57% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday rally. Merck’s shares are up $1.79 (2.4%) while those of Walgreens Boots are up $0.94, or 1.8%, combining for a roughly 18-point boost for the Dow. Also contributing significantly to the gain are Amgen Inc. AMGN, +1.16%, Boeing BA, +0.78%, and Chevron CVX, +0.91%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the benchmark equates to a 6.58-point swing.
