Dow's 66-point climb highlighted by gains for Walgreens Boots, Merck shares

Behind strong returns for shares of Walgreens Boots and Merck, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is trading up Thursday afternoon. The Dow DJIA, +0.25% was most recently trading 66 points (0.2%) higher, as shares of Walgreens Boots WBA, +3.45% and Merck MRK, +2.80% have contributed to the index’s intraday rally. Walgreens Boots’s shares are up $1.81, or 3.4%, while those of Merck have climbed $2.04 (2.8%), combining for a roughly 25-point bump for the Dow. Amgen Inc. AMGN, +2.27%, Cisco CSCO, +1.86%, and Salesforce.com Inc. CRM, +1.48% are also contributing significantly to the gain. A $1 move in any of the index’s 30 components results in a 6.58-point swing.
