Bears trade up and land QB Justin Fields

There is a new quarterback in Chicago. The Bears made a bold move and traded way up in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft to select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

Chicago found a taker in the New York Giants for a trade up from No. 20 overall. The deal, per NFL.com:

The Bears acquired the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from the New York Giants in exchange for the No. 20 pick, a fifth-rounder (No. 164) and 2022 first-round and fourth-round selections.

The Bears aggressively snared Fields after he fell out of the top 10. He joins a quarterback room that includes veterans Andy Dalton and Nick Foles, who offer Fields some time to develop before being thrown to the Lions and the rest of the league.

Many Lions fans coveted Fields as a potential draft pick. New Detroit GM Brad Holmes and the team opted to build around Jared Goff instead by selecting Oregon OT Penei Sewell.
