Dow up nearly 225 points on gains in shares of Nike, JPMorgan Chase

Shares of Nike and JPMorgan Chase are posting strong returns Thursday afternoon, propelling the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory. The Dow DJIA, +0.67% is trading 221 points, or 0.7%, higher, as shares of Nike NKE, +1.95% and JPMorgan Chase JPM, +1.81% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday rally. Nike’s shares are up $3.08 (2.4%) while those of JPMorgan Chase have climbed $2.78, or 1.8%, combining for a roughly 39-point bump for the Dow. Also contributing significantly to the gain are Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, +1.52%, Home Depot HD, +1.71%, and Chevron CVX, +1.43%. A $1 move in any of the index’s 30 components equates to a 6.58-point swing.
