Dow climbs nearly 225 points on gains in shares of Nike, JPMorgan Chase

Led by strong returns for shares of Nike and JPMorgan Chase, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is climbing Thursday afternoon. Shares of Nike NKE, +2.36% and JPMorgan Chase JPM, +1.83% are contributing to the index’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA, +0.66% was most recently trading 221 points (0.7%) higher. Nike’s shares are up $3.09, or 2.4%, while those of JPMorgan Chase are up $2.81, or 1.9%, combining for a roughly 39-point boost for the Dow. Also contributing significantly to the gain are Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, +1.75%, Home Depot HD, +1.80%, and Chevron CVX, +1.72%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the Dow equates to a 6.58-point swing.
